Description

ACTIONS AND INDICATIONS:

1.Arresting bleeding and removing blood stasis :This herb can be used to treat hematemesis, epistaxis, hemafecia, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, etc. which are due to heat. It can be used in combination with Radix Renhmanniae, Caxumen Biotae, Colla Corii Asini, etc. In treating dysentery with bloody stool, the can be used in combination with Radix Scutellariae, Rhizoma Coptidis, etc.; in treating metrorrhagia and metrostaxis due to cold of deficiency type, the herb can be used in combination with Os Sepiellae seu Sepiae, Concha Ostreae, Radix Astragali seu Hedysari, etc. to astringe blood and build up strength; in treating allergic purpura, the herb can be used in combination with Radix Arnebiae seu Lithospermi, Radix Salaiae Miltiorrhizae, etc

2.Cooling blood and promoting blood circulation :This herb can be used in combination with Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae to treat stasis of blood due to blood-heat, dysmenorrhea, anemia, etc., or in combination with Flos Carthami, Radix Paeoniae Rubra, etc. to treat traumatic injury.

ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE: Usually, 9-15 of the herb is used in decoction.

The herb had hemostatic properties in small doses(5-10g)and clot-dissolving properties in high doses (over 20g ); its hemostatic is first dry-fried in a hot pan with lumps of charcoal
