In treating cough and asthma which are induced by cold, the herb can be used in combination with herba ephedrae, semen armeniacae amarum, fructus perillae, etc. In treating cough with blood, the herb and bulbus lilii can be ground into powder and made into pills with honey. In treating severe cough, the herb can be used in combination with semen armeniacae amarum, bulbus fritillariae cirhosae, fructus schisandrae, etc.

dosage: usually, 5-9 g of the herb is used in decoction. The crud herb is used for cough due to exogenous invasion and the prepared, for long-lasting cough of deficiency type.
