Description

ACTIONS AND INDICATIONS:

1. Inducing urination to remove retention of phlegm
It is used in treating edema and local fullness, oliguria and constipation in combination with brown sugar, Radix Glycyrrhizin, Fructus Ziziphi Jujubae; in treating constipation due to accumulation of damp-heat, it can be used in powder form for oral administration with decoction of Radix Glycyrrhizae; besides, it can be used with Semen Lepidii seu Descurainiae Officinalis for treating cough and dyspnea due to retention of phlegm.

2. Killing parasites and removing stagnation of evils
To treat abdominal pain due to ascariasis, the drugs, Semen Arecae and Radix et Rhizome Rhei are used in powder form in equal amount and the powder 2-3g is taken twice a day, one in the morning and the other in the evening, when the belly is empty; to treat enterobiasis, the drug 9g, Omphalia 9g and Radix et Rhizome Rhei 3g are powdered and divided into three doses, one dose per day, usually the powder is taken with water before sleep.

ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
3 – 6 grams of the drug are decocted, and 1.5 – 4.5 grams of the drug are used in pill or powder form.

REMARKS:
Mildly poisonous; the herb is very drying and should be used small doses sporadically, not regularly.
