Functions:

Clears heat and relieves fire toxicity: frequently used in the treatment of cough due to Lung heat, swollen and painful throat, fevers, sores, and ulcers.

Clears and drains damp-heat: for damp-heat jaundice, and ascites caused by cirrhosis of the liver. Also for damp-heat affecting the bladder.

Caution:

Mild discomfort, reduced appetite, and hair loss are possible side effects. Injections of large doses may cause dyspnea, tachycardia, muscle spasms, and (in severe cases) even coma.

Dosage:

15-30g; for cancer or cirrhosis of the liver, use up to 60g.
