CHEMICAL COMPONENT:
Dichroines, dichroidine, 4-qunazolone, umbelliferone, febrifugine, isofebrifugine, tromethylamine
Recommended Dosage:4-9 GM.
Action:
1. Anti-malarial – the action od Dichroa is 26 times that of quinine. It is effective against P. gallinaceum, P. lophurae, P. relictum, P. cynomolgi, etc.
2. Anti-amoeba – action is stronger than emetine.
3. Anti-pyretic – action is stronger than salicylic acid.
4. Anti-viral
5. Lower blood pressure – dilation of the blood vessels of internal visceras, and inhibition of the heart.
Toxicity:
In some experimental dogs and rats, oral intake or injection of the extract may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and congestion of blood in the GI membrane. The mechanism may be due to the stimulation of the vagus and sympathetic nerve endings on the GI-tract and the action on the vomiting center, thus cause vomiting by reflex.
