DESCRIPTION:

Ellipsoidal or spheroidal, 2~3.5 cm long, 1.5~2.5 cm in diameter. Externally dark red, somewhat lustrous, irregularly wrinkled. Base dented, with a short fruit stalk. Exocarp thin, mesocarp brownish-yellow or pale brown, fleshy, soft, sugary and oily. Kernel fusiform, acute at the both ends, texture hard. Odour, slightly aromatic; taste,sweet.

ACTION:

To tonify the spleen and replenish qi, to nourish blood, and to ease the mind.

INDICATIONS:

Anorexia, lassitude and loose stools in deficiency syndromes of the spleen; hysteria in women.

REFERENTIAL ADVICE:

1.Tonifying the spleen and regulating the nutrient system

This drug can be used to treat poor appetite and listlessness due to deficiency of the spleen and stomach, diarrhea due to deficiency of the spleen, incoordination between the nutrient and defensive systems, etc. In tonifying the spleen and stomach, the drug is often used in combination with Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae and Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae and in coordinating the nutrient and defensive systems, the drug is always used in combination with Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens.

2.Nourishing the heart and calming the mind

In treating restlessness of deficiency type and insomnia, the drug is often used in combination with Semen Ziziphi Spinosae, Radix Polygalae, etc. In treating hysteria, the drug is often used in combination with Radix Glycyrrizae, fructus Tritici Levis, etc.

3.Modifying drug properties
