ACTION:
To eliminate phlegm and relieve cough.

INDICATIONS:
Cough with copious expectoration and dyspnea.

REFERENTIAL ADVICE:
Promoting the lung’s dispersing function, sending down adverse flow of Qi, dispelling phlegm and relieving cough

This drug is a main drug for cough due to disorder of the lung because it can effectively send down adverse flow of Qi, thus eliminating phlegm and therefore relieve cough. In treating cough with profuse sputum due to obstruction of the lung-Qi, stuffy chest, shortness of breath, etc., the drug can be used in combination with Herba Ephedrae, Flos Farfarae, Semen Armeniacae Amarum, Radix Glycyrrhizae, etc. In treating cough and asthma with yellow and sticky sputum difficult to be expectorated due to lung-heat, the drug can be used in combination with Cortex Mori Radicis, Radix Rehmanniae, Cortex Lycii Radicis, etc. In Mori treating cough due to exogenous wind-cold, the drug is often used in combination with Herba Schizonepetae, Radix Platycodi, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, etc.
